Learning how to use scrapbooking graphics is essential for anyone wishing to succeed with digital scrapbooking because it will help you learn how to display your photographs in the best possible manner and it can make better layouts which will highlight your memories even if they are in the form of newspaper clippings and other memories in the most effective manner. What’s more, you can even share layouts over the internet or archive them and even print them and place them in physical albums after using the right software to create the layout.

What Is Graphics Software?

Of course, before you proceed with using scrapbooking graphics, you must first of all be sure as to what is meant by graphics software and how does it help you improve your scrapbook. Essentially, graphics software is specialized software that allows you to create and even edit as well as manage two dimensional computer graphics. Examples of such computer graphics include Web graphics, clip art, headings, logos and digital photos and major graphics software include those offered by Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Illustrator and CorelDraw.

Thus, when using one of these scrapbooking graphics programs you can do many of the things that were once done by hand (as in the traditional way of scrapbooking) and by using digital photographs and clip art as well as other kinds of photo-objects you can create very appealing scrapbooks that have all the style and character of traditional scrapbooks – only they are done on a computer and generally stored there as well.

Of course, you can also make use of scrapbooking graphics to create digital elements that can be incorporated into manual pages of your scrapbook. Whatever usage you choose, when going the scrapbooking graphics route you will need to use photo editing programs such as Photoshop Elements or Adobe Photoshop and in addition, you will also need to use illustration software of which CorelDraw is a good example.

Thus, before proceeding any further with your digital scrapbooking, you need to first of all understand that scrapbooking graphics can either be vector or bitmapped and these two formats each has their own advantages and disadvantages which means that until you thoroughly understand how each works, you won’t be able to get the most out of either kind of scrapbooking graphics.

Bit mapped scrapbooking graphics refer to graphics that are ‘pixel based’ or which are ‘paint’ graphics and the software used in this form of graphics are the photo or image editing ones such as Photoshop Element. On the other hand, vector scrapbooking graphics refers to drawn graphics and the software used in this instance is generally referred to as an illustration or draw program such as CorelDraw.

Also, bitmapped graphics are patterns consisting of minute square dots known as pixels which are very different to those used in vector graphics which don’t use colored pixels to create the image and instead use mathematical formulae that instruct the software how to ‘draw’ the image.

What it all boils down to is that if you need to use digital photographs, then you must use bitmapped scrapbooking graphics while if you were using anything other than digital photographs, then vector scrapbooking graphics is what you need to use.

Having a baby is an amazing experience for any family, so it is very natural to try to capture all the precious moments by taking lots of photos. Are all the photos just piling up or lost in your computer? If you take a little time to organize them, you can easily enjoy looking at them and remembering all the fun times.

One of the best and most enjoyable ways of organizing all those photos is by creating a scrapbook for the new baby.

Even if you haven’t done any crafting since kindergarden, you’ll enjoy creating a scrapbook for your new baby. You can make it as simple or as fancy as you like. You already know the basic skills — cutting out and pasting — and you can learn the rest as you go along.

The only important thing is to start and organize the photos in a meaningful form that people can enjoy. Then keep adding to the book as the baby grows up, so you have an illustrated narrative of his or her life.

Various types of pages, a scrapbook or album to hold the pages, glue, and scissors are really all you need to get started. Be careful about the pages. You need acid-free, archival pages for any precious or heirloom photographs. If you can’t find scrapbooking supplies in your local store, you can easily buy everything online.

Don’t get overwhelmed with choices here. There are lots of cute adornments and stuff for baby scrapbooks. But you can always buy them later after you see what you want for embellishments or something special.

I get started on a new scrapbook by going through all the photos and sorting them into piles by date. I’m relentless about eliminating the duplicates and really bad photos at this stage. Take the photos from the first pile and spread them out so you can see all of them. Select the best photos and arrange them on the page so that they tell a story. Leave room for a title of the occasion, the date, who, what, and anything else interesting. This information is very important to record now when it’s fresh in your mind.

Complete the story of your baby’s life by including other significant items. For a new baby, shower invitations, a copy of the birth certificate, birth announcement, thumb and foot prints are fun. When your child is older, add anything meaningful, especially records of accomplishments such as newspaper clippings, school athletic letters, ribbons and awards.

The most important thing to remember when making a scrapbook is to make it with love. As long as you do that, you will make perfect scrapbooks every time.

My mother started my scrapbook when I was born, and I have been hooked on scrapbooking every since. For more tips and ideas, visit my scrapbooking blog.
